The Night Agent - Episode 1 Summary & Recap

Metro bombing

One day, FBI agent Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso) was on a subway when he realized a mysterious man in a hoodie dropping off his backpack on the subway floor before leaving the train. He found this suspicious and looked in the bag, only to find a bomb. Without much hesitation, Peter stopped the train and asked everyone to evacuate. Unfortunately, the bomb went off as passengers were evacuating and a passenger died.

As the police and ambulance carried victims to the hospital, Peter noticed the man in the hoodie among the crowd. It soon became and intense chase into a dark alley. However, the man managed to attack Peter from behind and eventually escaped. During the fight, Peter noticed the snake tattoo on the man’s body.

Call in the middle of the night

A year later, Peter is now a lowly FBI agent who takes call from the basement of the White House. He had to look into reports and is constantly in between the power struggle of the Deputy Director of the FBI, Hawkins and the President’s Chief of Staff, Diane Farr (Hong Chau).

We are then introduced to Rose Larkin (Luciane Buchanan). Rose is the niece of her Uncle Henry and Aunt Emma Campbell. One night, the electricity in their house went off and Rose overheard her uncle and aunt discussing that they should not trust people in the White House. Henry and Emma gave Rose a number to call and told her that there are dangerous assassins outside.

As things seemed urgent, Rose left to another house and dialed the number which led her to Peter. Peter asked if she was “Sidewinder” or “Gazelle”, but Rose knew nothing an one of the assassins is coming after her. Peter guided her via the phone to hide until the police came. Unfortunately, by then, her aunt and uncle had been killed.

Rose's uncle and aunt gave her a number to call and a code.

Somewhere safe

Diane Farr believed something bad is going on and asked Peter to personally take custody of Rose and bring her somewhere safe. Peter did as told and brought Rose to his apartment. There, he took Rose’s phone, left it in a hidden compartment of his desk, and planted a video camera.

Peter then left with Rose, but was involved in a car chase. Things got dangerous as a man from the car tried to shoot Peter’s car. Rose immediately recognized him as the guy from her aunt’s house. Peter managed to lose the other car and drove Rose to his friend’s Airbnb. That night, Rose kept questioning Peter. Therefore, he eventually revealed that Rose’s aunt and uncle are actually agents. Peter’s job was to re-route distressed agents’ calls.

Masked men

After Rose went to bed, Peter kept watch and watched the live video of the camera he planted in his apartment. Sure enough, there were masked men looking for something. This means that Rose’s phone had been tracked. He tried getting Diane Farr’s agent to jump into action, but they were too late. Peter noticed that one of the masked man was wearing a very particular gold ring with some special carving.

The next day, Peter dropped Rose off at Diane and Hawkin’s office for a debrief. But Rose did not fully trust them and asked Peter to follow along.

Meanwhile, a young couple, Dale (Phoenix Raei) and Ellen tricked a lady into letting them enter the house. The couple then killed the lady before taking a bag out. Dale texted an unknown person that the job is done.
