Accident
Jay eventually followed his father to Peggy’s flat, and now he has feared the worst. He called his mother to see if she knew where his father was, but he couldn’t bring himself to say any more. Inside the apartment, William and Anna engaged in BDSM sex. Jay eventually got the courage to open the door and walked in on his father and fiancée in the middle of the act.
He was shocked and started walking backwards. Before William could address it, Jay fell off the staircase railing onto the ground. Without much hesitation, William rushed downstairs naked to cradle his son who has now died from the fall. Anna was also shocked, but she stoically walked out the apartment in her robe. When the ambulance and police came, William told them the truth.
Aftermath
Back home, Sally was disappointed in her father while Ingrid was grief-stricken over the loss of her son. By the time they had Jay’s funeral, Ingrid had already asked William to never show his face again.
With all this chaos going on, William is still as obsessed with Anna as ever. During the funeral, he tried asking Anna’s mother for Anna’s whereabouts and even stormed into Peggy’s office to find out where Anna was.
Asking for a second chance
The truth is Anna had been with her mother until they had a conversation. Anna’s mother requested that this will be “the last one”, and alluded to her brother Aston being infatuated with her. This was news to Anna, and she’s now pissed off as her mother knew about Aston raping her when she was a child; and her mother didn’t stop him. Anna ended up leaving her home.
Anna ended up in a hotel in Europe where she tried making advances on a man at the pool and one at the club dancefloor. When the guy in the club tried touching her against her will, Anna fought back and went back to her room. William was already there waiting for her. That night, Anna wept as William bathed her.
In the morning, William expressed his interest to continue their relationship over breakfast. However, Anna felt guilty about Jay’s death and could not even entertain such thoughts. She told William not to look for her again.
Conclusion
Back in London, Anna went to Peggy’s flat to seek Peggy’s support. Some time has then passed, and now, the flat ended up on sale. William entered the apartment through a real estate agent and found Anna’s diary at the fireplace. It was unknown whether the diary was left there purposely for him, but the notes in her diary carry a positive note as to how they both could move forward.
In the final scene of the series, Anna is now in therapy. When she expressed her concern as a first-timer going through therapy, her shrink suggested that they set a few rules to get her comfortable. Anna noted how strange that suggestion was, and the camera faded to black. It was not clear whether Anna and her therapist would begin another toxic relationship like she did with William.
